It’s official! The most powerful man in the world has confirmed that he will be visiting the strongest micro economy in the world! That is assuming that he is not flying Qantas however I digress.
On the 17th November the US President has scheduled to land in Darwin for a 2 hour stopover and have brief talks with the Chief minister of the Northern Territory Paul ‘Hendo’ Henderson.
The brains trust of the Northern Territory (and I use that term loosely given that we have a labour parliament) speculate that President Obama has chosen to visit Darwin as he is set to announce that the US will be looking to site a ‘pre-positioning’ base worth multi millions right next to the existing Robertson Barracks.
The exact description of this project by the US Government is unsure at the moment however Australian Defence Minister’ Steven Smith says “There will be more troops in, troops out, more planes in, planes out and mores ships in, ships out.” This is a large project by Australian Standards and huge when you consider it will be in little old Darwin.
Combine that with the massive projects scheduled and little old Darwin town is in for some boom economic times!
You are welcome to drop by Darwin any time Mr Obama……Sydney who?
