This is the time of the year in Darwin where everyone who doesn’t have to be here usually isn’t.

The weather is oppressive to those who are not inured to its whimsical charms eg 35 degrees Celsius and 85% humidity. You gain a real understanding of why Doctor’s suggest that perhaps 3 Litres of water a day may not actually be enough.Us locals????? love it as we get ‘Little old Darwin’ back. You can get in a shopping queue where it does not take an hour to cash out, you can wander into any restaurant in your best ‘boardies’ without a booking and grab a stool at your favourite watering hole with no trouble at all……Put simply the bloody tourists are gooooone!

However there is a down side……..and that is those without air-conditioning can go a little TROPPO! It’s the term given to insane behaviour typical of the Northern Territorian when the balmy temperature gets a little bit much. It’s the time of the year when the articles in the NT News are at their best and her are some of the reports in today’s paper to give you a taste.

“It is pretty full on when there is a Crocodile in your lounge room” An entertaining yarn about how this family awoke to find a wayward 1.7m Saltie in the lounge whilst they were fast asleep. It’s OK though folks as the old man fended him off with his guitar! I especially like how the masked avenger who saved the day posed for his photo in his best KISS T-shirt. www.ntnews.com.au/article/2012/01/09/282345_ntnews.html“Open Season on Territory UFO’s” Allegedly this is the time that they all come out in one of the most UFO active places in the world…..Co-incidentally it is the time that you need to consume the most beer to quench your thirst created by our weather? Believe it……or not! www.ntnews.com.au/article/2012/01/09/282261_ntnews.html“Naked woman catches 110cm Jewie” I reckon that 50 – 100 of these are caught up here every week…..however some bird with her tata’s out makes page 6 when she holds one up…..even the journo was taken with a little Troppo as she had bikini bottoms on and by my reckoning that is hardly naked! www.ntnews.com.au/article/2012/01/09/282241_fishing.html

Well just thought I would bring you up to speed on what happens on a slow news day in the Territory during Troppo season……I think there is a bit here for everyone.
