About 10 years ago I was on the phone to my dad and he said “Yeah it’s alright for you real estate agents. You’ve got heaps of money!”

My reply was somewhat facetious “Yeah that’s right dad. It just blows around the backyard. I get sick of it and every Sunday I rake it into a big pile and burn it otherwise it gets caught on the thorns of the roses! Silly old bastard!”……Never did I think that I would find myself in a position that this vision of my fathers would become a potential reality. However here I am in Darwin and after what I heard this week I am confident we are on the precipice of a boom that will see Economic Activity in this little town over the next 10 years which I previously only dreamt about.

I refer to the NT Major Projects Conference 2012 and below I have listed some quotes which will show you why I am feeling a tad bullish.

‘We have the following projects approved, very nearly approved or in the pipeline across the NT over the next few years AA co abattoir $50 Million, Darwin International airport $100 Mill, Skycity Casino $26 Mill, Tourism – ‘Bombing Darwin Memorial’ – $10 Mill, Gold and Phosphate – $100 Mill, Support industries retail – $120 Mill, Defence Spending – $50 Mill, Defence Housing – $50 Mill, Casuarina Square – $200 Mill, PAWA projects – $1.2 Billion, Paspaley – $84 Mill, Prison – $410 Mill, Police & Health etc – $200 Mill, Palmerston Hospital – $120 Mill, Palmerston water centre – $12 Mill, Resources Marine Supply Base – $150 Million, NA Training Centre – $5 Million, Ichthys LNG Project – $30 Billion, Floating Gas Projects – $7 Billion, Oil Fields – $50 Mill, Mining and Minerals – $3 Billion’ Paul Henderson, Chief Minister Northern Territory

‘There will be a requirement in the NT for 85 000 greater population by 2020 to service the employment needs of the created by the projects scheduled for the Territory’ Peter Stewart, Department Resources & Projects NT

‘It is anticipated that the Ichthys project alone will drive an 18% economic growth in Darwin every year for the life of the project and will form 1/5th of the NT economy in the next 10 years’ Sean Kildare, CEO INPEX

Our Department has projected that Darwin will require 24 500 new dwellings to satisfy the population demand by 2025′ David Malone, Dept Lands & Planning NT

These stats and comments show why the economy is about to go BOOM…..This makes me a little excited! But when I think about what the potential for Real Estate means up here ….. well I get ecstatic!!

Selling Real Estate in Darwin over the next few years……The words ‘It’s easy as shelling peas’ leaps to my mind!
